RM Mills School Take 2
I'm not the most patient person in the world. Acrylics are a good medium for me because they dry quickly, but I still need to learn patience, and to keep on layering until it really feels done. I had pretty much decided I was finished with the school just because I was tired of working on it, and I was afraid it wouldn't get any better if I kept going. However, I didn't sign it. I have a hard time signing pieces unless I really feel like they are done. It just feels dishonest. I wasn't a huge fan of the colors, but it was tricky for me to do a color piece from black and white reference. The building looked extremely different than the background because it was done completely in grayscale. The painting just didn't look right with the frame and it didn't have the subtle, vintage look I wanted. Last night I decided to do a few things I had been pondering that I felt would make the piece stronger:
1) Re-paint the bottom with better lines.
2) Paint over the black with extremely dark blue to bring depth.
3) Use a light blue glaze over the shadows that were done only in graphite.
4) Tone down the sky
I am much more pleased with the result, and now I can stop thinking about it when I'm lying in bed trying to go to sleep:
