Rocky Mount Mills Painting

My parents and my husband have been after me for a while to do a picture of the mill. I wanted to do it, but I felt like it had already been portrayed in so many great pieces that I really didn't have anything to contribute. Then one day after the Farmer's Market, we took the kids to Battle Park to walk around where my husband and I walked on our first date. My kids enjoyed catching the tiny frogs that were all over the shore, and my husband got a shot of the mill that I instantly knew was my inspiration piece.

It feels like the mill felt to me as a kid growing up on the river: distant, mysterious, and always just there in the background across the water. I really can't wait until it's renovated and I can step foot in it for the first time.
